Le songe de Tartini: the devil playing the violin at Tartini’s bedside (Boilly, 1824)

About this concert

For All Hallows’ Eve, Siwoo Kim gives a recital of devilish virtuosity, from Tartini’s “Devil’s Trill” Sonata to Paganini’s La Campanella.

Each work carries a shadow: Tartini said the Devil played him the sonata in a dream, Ysaÿe’s Second Sonata is haunted by the Dies irae, Schubert’s Erlkönig, in Ernst’s arrangement, follows a father racing to save his son, and Paganini was rumored to have made a pact with Satan. A reception with wine and hors d’oeuvres precedes the concert.
