About this concert
Charles Martin Loeffler’s Octet of 1897, unpublished and unheard for more than a century, returns to the stage after its manuscript surfaced in the Library of Congress.
Loeffler was once counted among the leading composers in America, yet this Octet for two clarinets, harp, string quartet and double bass never reached print or a recording. Clarinetist Graeme Steele Johnson found the score in the Library of Congress archives in 2020 and has gathered an ensemble to bring it back.
Siwoo Kim joins the group for an evening that also includes Poulenc’s Sonata for Two Clarinets and Brahms’s late Clarinet Quintet in B minor, Op. 115.
