Out now: Michael Torke’s Last, with Siwoo Kim and ECCO
Twelve pieces for solo violin and strings, recorded with the East Coast Chamber Orchestra.
I love my life in music, but the exertion can add up with such a lifestyle. I was suffering from burn-out when I decided to go whale-watching for the first time in Monterey (they’re my favorite animals/mammals).
When I returned to land after seeing 17 humpback whales, I got an email from composer Michael Torke saying that he had listened to my Bach Concertos. He said that my sound and phrasing would suit the new music he wrote for solo violin and string orchestra with the intention of serving the psyche of our contemporaneous listeners: music that’s bite-sized in length, accessible, stream-able, and most importantly, invites one to slow down, feel and reflect in such a chaotic period in history.
This mission and intentionality immediately resonated with me, and this project has been an honor of a lifetime: to work with the great American composer, make music with my East Coast Chamber Orchestra (ECCO) family and to record with the legendary Silas Brown.
Serendipity exists!
